You know that old saying, everyone's a comedian. In this article we talk about earning your money using comedy.

When any entertainer takes the stage, they have many jobs. the one that is most important however, is to entertain the audience. It sounds simple but the truth is, it is not always as easy as it sounds. Some people get into the entertainment business and do a few shows and burn out. The problem is, just because they burn out does not mean the get out of the business.

In the business of magic and in the children's entertainment field, you have to be funny. Circus folks tell people all the time, make um laugh...make um laugh...everyone loves to laugh. There you have it. Everyone loves to laugh and have a great time. Comedy better be a part of your act or you will not be around long.

Children love to laugh and have a great time and will not hold back on telling you their thoughts and what they are feeling when it comes to you and your show. If you go to any video site and type in magic as a search, you are bound to find that after watching a few of them...most had comedy as a routine part of them.

If you are an entertainer, you better know how to get the crowd in the mood. Try entertaining in the one hundred and two degree heat. All I can say is, you better be super funny. When you make your money in this business, the entertainment business, you better make the clients happy. Laughter works wonders and goes along way.

People often ask why some magicians are able to have an audience in the palm of their hands and others have to work very hard to entertain that same audience. Comedy helps to overcome these barriers that are set up by the audience. Keep in mind that some audiences have never seen a magic show or a Broadway play. Live entertainment is not available every where.

A large group of us magicians are still trying to understand why someone who claims to be a magician does things like rents out moon bounces or does a living statue that throws objects at an unsuspecting guest. I guess the living statue works on the fact the after they get over the 'scare' of the flying object - they laugh and it is that laugh that is funny and keeps them happy.

we don't suggest a pie in your face but hey - we want to make you laugh. So go enjoy your day and it better be a funny one!  Mark T. Joseph
